My message from the panel, in brief:
1. Nepal must build the right type of hydropower — not just more megawatts, but the right mix of storage, peaking, and run-of-river projects.
2. Solar is not a competitor to hydro; it is the natural complement to our RoR and PRoR plants — strongest precisely in the dry season when our rivers run low.
3. Energy storage — BESS and pumped storage — is no longer optional. It is the key to quality, reliable, affordable, and available power for Nepal’s domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers.
4. Storage is equally the key to smarter exports: targeting the high-price peak hours in neighboring markets, positioning Nepal as the energy reservoir of South Asia, and providing ancillary services to stabilize the regional grid.
5. It is time to give real impetus to Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) markets — monetizing the green value of every clean unit we generate.
Megawatts generated are an engineering achievement. Megawatts consumed productively — at home and across borders — are an economic achievement. That is the ecosystem we must now build.

Presentation to PTEEL Board by Nangia LLP – 2026
The 4th Annual General Meeting of the Power Trade and Energy Exchange Limited (PTEEL) held on 9th January,2025 at its office premises Uma Shankar Bhawan, Panipokhari, Kathmandu, Nepal.
Representing PTEEL Company, Er. Kuldeep Sharan Singh, Er. Suman Sharma and Dr. Sandip Shah, directors of PTEEL Company, participated in the training “Evolving Power Market in India“, organized from April 21-23, 2025 by Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon, India. Challenges and limitation in current CBET regulations and Cross Border Trading Practices & discussions was very helpful. Power point presentation on “Cross – Border Energy Trade – Status, Issues and Way Forward for Nepal” was also done.
Possibility of engaging in strategic initiatives to facilitate and strengthen power trading between India and Nepal was explored by engaging with right minded people.
Er. Kuldeep Sharan Singh and Er. Suman Sharma, directors of PTEEL met with Mr. Vikram Singh Vice President of PTC India on April 24, 2025 at PTC Office, New Delhi. In the meeting PTEEL directors appraised Mr. Singh about recent activities related to power trade in Nepal.
The meeting was helpful in further strengthening business relationships and exploring collaborations between the two companies.
